If you have a mole you're concerned about, or simply want some reassurance, Map My Mole offers a convenient dermatologist-reviewed screening service.

During your appointment, I'll photograph your mole using the Map My Mole system. Your images and relevant information are securely submitted for review by a qualified dermatologist.

Your results are typically returned within 48 hours, so you're not left wondering for weeks.

HOW DOES MAP MY MOLE WORK?

1. YOUR MOLE IS SCREENED

During your appointment, I'll take detailed images of the mole or moles you're concerned about and complete the relevant information required for screening.

2. A DERMATOLOGIST REVIEWS IT

Your images and information are submitted through Map My Mole and reviewed by a qualified dermatologist.

I do not diagnose your mole myself.

3. YOUR RESULTS ARE RETURNED

Your dermatologist's report is typically returned within 48 hours.

You'll receive your results along with any recommendations for further medical assessment if required.

WHAT IF MY MOLE NEEDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION?

If the dermatologist recommends further investigation, you'll be advised to seek appropriate medical assessment through your GP or a dermatologist.

Map My Mole is a screening service and does not replace an in-person medical examination or provide a definitive medical diagnosis.

If you have a mole that is changing, bleeding, itching, painful or causing concern, please seek appropriate medical advice.

WHAT IF I'D LIKE A BENIGN LESION REMOVED?

Once an appropriate medical assessment has established that a lesion is suitable for cosmetic removal, we can discuss the available options.

Depending on the type, size, depth and location of the lesion, this may include CryoPen or Plasma treatment.

 

 

CRYOPEN SKIN LESION REMOVAL

Precision freezing technology

CryoPen is a form of cryotherapy that uses a precise application of nitrous oxide to freeze and treat selected superficial skin lesions.

The treatment works by freezing the targeted tissue, causing it to undergo a natural healing process as the treated area gradually resolves.

CryoPen may be suitable for certain benign skin lesions and cosmetic imperfections, depending on their type, size, depth, location and individual suitability.

WHAT CAN CRYOPEN TREAT?

CryoPen may be suitable for selected:

• Skin tags

• Seborrhoeic keratoses

• Solar lentigines

• Certain pigmentation

• Milia

• Cherry angiomas

• Certain warts and verrucae

• Sebaceous hyperplasia

• Other suitable benign lesions

Not every lesion is suitable for CryoPen. Each area will be assessed before treatment.

 

WHAT HAPPENS DURING TREATMENT?

The CryoPen delivers a controlled application of nitrous oxide directly to the treatment area.

The freezing application can take just a few seconds, although the overall appointment time will depend on the number and type of lesions being treated.

DOES CRYOPEN HURT?

Most clients describe a brief stinging, prickling or cold sensation during treatment. The sensation is generally short-lived, although the area may feel slightly tender afterwards.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TREATMENT?

The treated area will go through a natural healing process.

You may experience:

• Redness

• Mild swelling

• Sensitivity

• Darkening of the treated area

• Dryness or crusting

• Occasionally, blistering

The area will gradually heal over the following weeks. Healing times vary depending on the lesion, treatment area and individual skin response.

PLASMA SKIN LESION REMOVAL

Targeted treatment for selected benign skin lesions

Plasma skin lesion removal uses controlled plasma energy to treat selected superficial skin lesions.

Unlike CryoPen, which uses freezing technology, Plasma uses a focused electrical arc to create controlled thermal energy at the treatment site.

This allows targeted treatment of suitable lesions, with the aim of treating the unwanted tissue while limiting impact on the surrounding skin.

Plasma may be an appropriate option for certain superficial benign skin lesions, depending on their type, size, depth and location.

 

WHAT CAN PLASMA TREAT?

Plasma may be considered for selected superficial benign skin lesions and unwanted skin imperfections.

Not every lesion is suitable for Plasma, and the most appropriate treatment will depend on individual assessment and the device's treatment guidance.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING TREATMENT?

The Plasma device delivers controlled energy to the targeted area. The treatment creates a localised thermal effect, treating the selected tissue.

The treatment time will depend on the size, type and number of lesions being addressed.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TREATMENT?

Following treatment, the skin will go through its natural healing process.

You may experience:

• Redness

• Mild swelling

• Small crusts or scabbing

• Temporary sensitivity

• Temporary changes in skin pigmentation

The treated area must be allowed to heal naturally. Picking or disturbing the healing skin can increase the risk of scarring and pigmentation changes.

Healing times vary depending on the treatment area and individual skin response. Full aftercare instructions will be provided.

CRYOPEN OR PLASMA?

What's the difference? Both treatments can be used for selected benign skin lesions, but they work in very different ways.

CRYOPEN – FREEZING

CryoPen uses nitrous oxide to freeze the targeted tissue. The treated area then goes through a natural healing process as the tissue gradually resolves.

PLASMA – CONTROLLED THERMAL ENERGY

Plasma uses a focused electrical arc to create a controlled thermal effect, treating the targeted tissue.

 

WHICH ONE IS BETTER?

Neither treatment is automatically better than the other. The most appropriate option depends on the type of lesion, its location, size, depth and your individual skin. Some lesions may be better suited to CryoPen, others may be suitable for Plasma, and some may not be appropriate for cosmetic removal at all. I'll always recommend the most appropriate option following assessment rather than treating every lesion with the same method.
